A training day about marine litter in Giulianova, Italy, with MARLISCO!
A training day in Giulianova (Teramo, Italy) about marine litter, organized by the Province of Teramo in collaboration with the Regional School Office for the Abruzzo Region - Province of Teramo territory represented by Daniela Magno, was conducted on the 17th of October 2013 (h. 10.00 – 12.00) under the 7FP Project MARLISCO, MARine Litter in Europe Seas: Social AwarenesS and CO-Responsibility, coordinated by the Province of Teramo. The meeting took place in the Kursaal Conference Building in Giulianova (Teramo, Italy).
Beneficiaries of the training day were middle and upper-schools students of the Province of Teramo, taking part with enthusiasm to events involving 244 youngsters accompanied by 19 teachers. The event illustrated sea problems and marine litter in the specific, thanks to the speech about “Quantity, quality and distribution of marine litter and best practices for their reduction” given by Luigi Alcaro, Marine Biologist from the Minister of Environment (ISPRA - Institute for Environmental Protection and Research) and MARLISCO consultant.
In occasion of the training event, general information about the MARLISCO project activities were given by Doriana Calilli, Project Coordinator for the Province of Teramo, with particular reference to the MARLISCO European and National video-contest for youngsters aiming at realizing videos about marine litter, and general and technical instructions to realize and illustrate the videos for the contest were given by Matteo Albanese from Mind in Action, communication agency consultant for the Province of Teramo.
“Plastics and cigarette ends represent the most insidious floating marine litters – explained the Province of Teramo Environment Councillor Francesco Marconi talking with the students – both of them generate enormous problems for environment and marine fauna: they are even cause of death for many reptiles, birds and marine mammals. We are proud to represent the Italian country in this European project and I wish that Italian youngsters will distinguish themselves in this fascinating contest”.
