Bulgarian “MARLISCO: clean & save the beach”
campaign attracted impressive number of young volunteers
27.10.2013: More than 150 young people joined the MARLISCO initiative on clean pristine beach near Varna on 27 October 2013. The campaign was under the slogan “Summer’2013 is gone, and with it the tourists. Dozens of wild beaches remain dirty after them. Help to keep them clean! Become a "Baywatch"! Pick a beach, for which to care!”
The beach, known as Veteran, is favored by locals for peace. There are no concessionaires, paid sunbeds and umbrellas. However, this is a double edged sword, because the purity of this pristine beach relies solely on the minds and environmental responsibility of the visitors there.
At the end of the active tourist season, the young volunteers collected hundreds bags of waste from Veteran beach, and several divers descended to the sea bottom to remove discarded objects in the water.
At the end of the one day campaign volunteers received a warm lunch and flyer promoting MARLISCO video contest.
“MARLISCO: clean & save the beach” campaign was part of the series of actions dedicated to celebrate the International Black Sea Day - 31 October 2013.
