School teaching with a difference - project days to the Baltic Sea

In April EUCC - The Coastal Union Germany (EUCC-D) conducted two marine litter project days at a school in Rostock (Germany). Following the motto "Life on and in the Baltic Sea" 24 pupils discovered the small brackish water in front of the house door. Under the guidance of Anke Vorlauf (EUCC-D) the 6 graders made experiments and attempts, visited a 3-D cinema and much more. An excursion led the pupils to Hohe Düne, Warnemünde. During a walk on the beach, the pupils collected marine litter. They collected plastic waste in all variations, a fishing net, drums and cans, a satellite dish and more. Together with Anke Vorlauf the pupils discovered origin, fate and impact of marine litter, and discussed alternative courses of action.
